The Promise of the Rainbow
July 8th, 2008These past several weeks have been filled with an entire span of emotions for people in Cedar Rapids and other parts of Eastern Iowa. Weeks before the floods began there were the “jokes” of those that advised us to build an ark. We laughted at them but then lived with the reality of the water that covered everything in its path leaving muck and destruction behind. Even as we face an enormous task of recovering from the floods of 2008 we hear the promise of the rainbow. The sun did return to the ski and there were rainbows. The promise of the rainbow is that God has not turned from those hurting but God is embracing each one. It me seem that God is gone from Eastern Iowa but God is very present as the process continues.God was God before the June 2008 floods. God is God today and will be God tomorrow. This is the promise we have from God. The promise of the rainbow gives us the assurance of grace.
